The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker was a species of woodpecker that went extinct, until in the late 2000s - early 2010s, it was proven to still be a living species.

When it was classified as extinct, it was thought to have gone extinct around 1943 - 1944. Due to habitat destruction, and to a lesser extent hunting, its numbers have dwindled to the point where it is uncertain whether any remain, though there have been reports that it has been seen again. Almost no forests today can maintain an ivory-billed woodpecker population.
